Barnett Grimsley was the son of William "Buck" Grimsley and Agnes "Agatha" Norman Grimsley. He was born December 15, 1807 and died April 23, 1885. He was married to Ruth Updike. He was baptized in 1831 and ordained in 1833. He organized and established the church at Flint Hill and Mt. Carmel. He served Flint Hill, Mt. Salem, Woodville, Gourdine and Jeffersonton as pastor for many years. He rejected all offers to serve other churches as he desired to live, work and die all within a few miles of his birthplace. He was known as "Old Man Eloquent". This portrait was done by John James Porter.
