Sale of Land for Poor Farm to Justices of the Peace of Rappahannock County

Description:
Rappahannock County Deed Book C. pgs. 60 & 70. Sale of land by John and Elizabeth Finnell to the Justices of the Peace for Rappahannock County. At the May 1837 term the County Court had selected William Fletcher, Richard P. Kinsey, and John H. Wood as commissioners to select a suitable site for a poor house and work house and a place "for the reformation of vagrants." This land that was selected was north of Flint Hill and was owned by John & Elizabeth Finnell. The owner of the original patent was Nancy Cheek who was granted a patent on August 28, 1778 for this piece of land.
