Description: Various correspondence between lawyers employed by Lewis Carter, his widow, and children, and from the family members themselves, in their attempts to receive a Civil War pension for him for his service in Company E., 2nd Regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops. He was a resident of Rappahannock Academy in Caroline County, VA. The application states he was wounded in the arm in Savannah, GA and was treated at a Camp Hospital there and at Lincoln Hospital on 7th ST in Washington, DC.
