Description: Chief Justice article on the tornado that hit Rappahannock and Fauquier counties on May 2, 1929, killing many and critically injuring more. In Rappahannock, twenty year old Carrol Settle was killed, fourteen year old Marshall Hawkins was killed at school, and twelve year old Mary Elizabeth Browning died at a hospital. Injured were William Pulliam, age 12, Mrs. L. R. Browning, Miss Mary Spark, and Mrs. William Griffith. The school at Woodville was destroyed and the children were sent to Sperryville for the rest of the term. Four were killed in Catlett in Fauquier County and at Rye Cove, fifteen were killed. In Weaversville, south of Catlett a 14 room house built in 1829 was destroyed along with every building on the farm.
