Description: Jackson, a slave owned by David Kennard, was charged with breaking and entering the home of Michael Lawler on the night of July 20, 1837 and stealing 8 pieces of bacon worth $16.75. He was found not guilty of burglary, but guilty of petit larceny and was sentenced to 30 lashes on the bare back. Addison, a slave owned by Mary Dulaney was charged with receiving from said Jackson a piece of bacon worth $12 knowing it to be stolen. Charges against him were dismissed.
