Description: The trial of Edmund, slave owned by John Withers, charged with stabbing Henry Phillips, a free mulatto, with intent to main, disfigure and kill. He was found guilty and was sentenced to 39 lashes on his bare back. His counsel's fees of $12.50 were to be paid by John Withers.
